Jim G. Gibson, 93, of Haywood, died Friday, Nov. 20, at Baptist Hospital in Ft. Smith, Ark.  Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 10:00 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at Arpelar Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Jim D. Gibson, Randy Lampkin, Daniel Johnson, Shaun McGee, J. R. Hightower, and John Coffman.  Honorary pallbearers are Mark Parham, Randy Parham, Roger Parham and Mike Parham.

Jim Gibson was born on Sept. 4, 1927 on Coal Creek in the Haywood area, where he was raised with 5 sisters on farm land.  His parents were Adam and Winnie Katherine (Pope) Gibson.  At a very young age he began to hunt and fish while helping on the farm, raising hogs and tending the crops.  He loved to hunt and fish.  When he turned 18 he enlisted in the U. S Army Air Corps and spent 2 years in Japan from 1945 to 1947.  After the war and his honorable discharge, he came home with a World War II Victory Medal and soon met Marie Selman.  They were married on Nov. 4, 1950.  They had 4 children and each grandchild that was born was just as special as the next.  After his marriage he became a carpenter and loved to build with his own hands.  He worked as a carpenter for 50 years until finally retiring.  He loved to spend time with his children playing sports with each one, and he loved to watch all sports on TV.  He was saved and baptized in 1979.  He believed in our Lord, Jesus Christ, and prayed with his children before each meal served at his table.  He was a member of the Haywood Baptist Church.  He was always telling jokes and loved to make people laugh, we never knew how he remembered all the jokes.  No matter the problem, if you needed help, he was glad to give it to anyone, if you could get him out of the woods, where he loved to be, hunting deer, turkey, squirrel and racoons, and doing lots of fishing.  He never traveled too far from Coal Creek.  There were so many stories of olden days before he had his first car, riding his horse, gathering livestock, and calf roping with friends.  His family loved to hear each and every story being told, and each story he told was never the same.  We have so many wonderful memories.

Jim is survived by his 3 daughters, Janie Gibson Lampkin, Debbie Workman and husband Fred, and Althea Johnson and husband Doug; 11 grandchildren, Jim D. Gibson and wife Kim, Jana Oliver, Angela McElhaney and husband Dave, Randy Lampkin and wife Gareth, Casey Price and husband John Robert, Dana Workman, Laticia Workman and J. R. Hightower, Tabatha McGee and husband Shaun, Dixie Reagan, Daniel Johnson and wife Lori, and Melissa Coffman and John; 27 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild;2sisters, Caldonia Choate and Ann Smith.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Selman Gibson; his son, James David Gibson; a grandson, Christopher Lampkin; his parents; 3 sisters, Ada Lusk, Viola Blevins and Clara Blevins; and his parents-in-law, J. D. and Millie Selman.  He had many other family members and many special friends.  What a reunion they must be having in heaven.
