Wayne Roger Curtis was born July 24, 1934, in Limestone, Arkansas, to Vernie E. and Artie (Clayborn) Curtis.  He died on August 6, 2024 at McAlester Regional Health Center in McAlester, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years 13 days.

Wayne attended several schools in Arkansas and California, and graduated High School in Laytonville, California.  He joined the US Navy with several of his high school friends and spent three years as a radar specialist on the aircraft carrier, USS Philippine Sea.  After four years in the Navy, he attended college and started working in the bay area of California as a printer, specializing in printing on plastic film for food packaging.  In the mid-1980's he moved to Ashland, Oklahoma to be near his parents as they were aging.  He worked as a printer at the McAlester Democrat newspaper for many years before retiring. Wayne greatly enjoyed fishing and hunting and watching sports on TV. He landed many trophy bass and always got a deer during season.  He participated in a Professional Football poll with his nephews for many years, and usually came out on top with his predictions of the winners each season. Wayne was a Lifetime Member of NRA.  He served on the Ashland Town Council and worked with the Volunteer Fire Department for several years.  Wayne has been in Assisted Living in McAlester for the last four years.

Those preceding Wayne in death include his parents, Vernie and Artie Curtis; four sisters, Jimmie Weston, Jean Shepard, Nadine Randell and Ora Sue Curtis; and brother Jack D. Curtis.

Wayne leaves behind two brothers, Bob Curtis of Oklahoma City and Bill Curtis (wife Pat) of Coweta, Oklahoma, plus numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews spread all across the country from California to Virginia. He was a good uncle to them all.

There will be a family graveside service at Ashland Cemetery under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.
