Walter Lee Amos, 96, of McAlester, passed away Monday, September 12, 2022 in McAlester.  The family will welcome friends for visitation on Thursday, Sept. 15, at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be Friday, September 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel with Captain Ric Swartz officiating.  Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Walter Amos was born on October 10, 1925 in McAlester to Jefferson Lee Hancock and Angeline Moore.  He grew up here and has lived here all his life, except for a couple of years in California and Colorado.  He married Sarah Welsh on October 10, 1946, and she has preceded him in death.  Walter worked for McAlester's Coca Cola company, in the bottling operation, for over 10 years.  He then went to work at the Army Ammunition Plant, (then NAD), as a heavy equipment operator for over 20 years, until his retirement.  Walter was very active in the Choctaw Senior Citizens and loved going on trips with the group.  Walter could easily be considered the McAlester Buffaloes number 1 fan.  If there was a game going on, football, basketball, baseball, softball, or any other athletic event, Walter was probably there.  Even out of town games; Walter and a few of his friends, Gene Arpelar, Don Rogers, J. A. Darden and Tex Cope, known as the "Over the Hill Gang", would make the trip to Buff games or other area games.  Other than spending time with his family, attending these sporting events was probably his favorite activity.

Walter is survived by his children, Kathy Mowery, Paul Amos, Larry Amos, Becky Hallford, Tim Amos, Mark Amos and wife Donna, and Leann Amos; grandchildren, Rachel Harrison, Jennifer Watkins, Jason Amos, Kyle Clark, Bryan Clark, Aaron Amos, Jerran Amos, Daurah Amos, Logan Amos, Noah Amos, and Alicia Bell; numerous great grandchildren; and 2 half-sisters, Jean Cameron and Jurline Santine.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sarah; a son, David Amos; sister, Betty Karr; 3 half-sisters, Lucille Jameson, Virginia Sam, and Evelyn Hancock; and 2 half-brothers, Soloman and Doyle Hancock.
