Thomas Jerry Braswell, 90, of McAlester, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024 surrounded by his family.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester. Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in McAlester with Rodney Briggs and Terry Moore officiating.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Choctaw Nation Honor Guard and the United States Navy Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Layne Braswell, Connor Braswell, Mike Cloud, Rick Cloud, Mike Baker and Ted Moore.

Tommy was born on October 20, 1933 in McAlester, Oklahoma to Thomas Haywood and Clara Mae (Raydon) Braswell.  He attended Alderson School, where he was Salutatorian of his eighth-grade class and attended McAlester High School, graduating with the Class of 1952.  He earned his Associate of Science Degree from Eastern Oklahoma State College, and while there, was a member of the Air Force ROTC. After graduation, he attended East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. He served in the United States Navy on the ships U.S.S. Estes and Eldorado. He married Shirley Mae Cloud on June 17, 1962.  They just celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.  He worked for Rockwell International for 10 years before working at the US Army Reserve Center, 95th Division in McAlester, retiring as Unit Administrator after 20+ years of service with the rank of Sergeant 1st Class.  After retiring, he worked part time for Brumley-Mills Funeral Home and he was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. He enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing, and getting together with family and friends to play cards and dominoes.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandsons.  He was an active member of First Baptist Church in McAlester and lived out his faith in Christ throughout his life.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Mae Braswell of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan Thomas and Christina Braswell of McAlester, OK; two grandsons, Layne Thomas Braswell of Lawrence, KS and Connor Ryan Braswell of McAlester, OK; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Tom Reeder; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leon and Shirley Cloud, and Gary and Barbara Cloud; sister-in-law, Carol Cloud; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Haywood and Clara Mae Braswell; two brothers, Albert R. Braswell, Sr. and Robert Raydon Braswell.
