Shelly was born on June 13, 1958 in McAlester. She married Leroy Vanciel on September 5, 1981 in Harper Valley. She attended Kiowa Public School thru 9th grade then completed her high school education by GED. She went on to obtain a Bachelor's degree at North Texas State. She taught Special Education for 9 years in Texas (1985-1987 at Lake Dallas and 1987-1994 at Krum) and 21 years in Oklahoma (1995-2008 at Savanna, 2009-2011 at Frink Chambers, 2012-2017 at McAlester.) Teaching was her passion. She always said, "all children can learn. Some children just learn differently." As a Special Education teacher, Mrs Vanciel felt teachers just needed to adapt their teaching strategies to ensure that every child is successful. Her job wasn't always easy, but her love of children and teaching made it worth every minute. Even though her health forced her into retirement, she still was able to tutor children from time to time in her home. Shelly was one of the most giving people God ever created by sharing her time, energy and resources. She touched the lives of so many children and people that will be forever blessed by knowing her and benefiting from her wisdom, kindness & generosity.
Shelly loved crappie fishing, tending to her many beautiful flowers, spending time making memories with her grandchildren and being a faithful, active member of the Kiowa Church of Christ.
Shelly was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret "Nancy" Hatridge; mother-in-law Ollie Vanciel; father-in-law Muriel Vanciel; brother-in-law Jesse Vanciel.
