Sharon Joe Wilson, 82, of McAlester, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at her home.

Family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester.  Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Brumley-Mills Chapel in McAlester with Chaplain Louis R. Reynolds officiating.  Burial will follow at Savanna Cemetery.

She was born on October 7, 1938 in McAlester, Oklahoma to Joseph Martin and Hilda Mauld (Givan) Putnam. She graduated from McAlester High School. She married Elmer Lee Wilson on December 2, 1978 in McAlester. Together, they adopted their grandchildren Winter Ackerman (Wilson) and Michael Wilson. She enjoyed reading, collecting turtle figurines and teapots.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in McAlester and the First Baptist Church Women's group.

Survivors include her children, Dr. Winter Ackerman, M.D., Michael Wilson and Elmer "Dwayne" Wilson, Jr.; grandchildren, Joshua Wilson, Rachel Wilson, Sylver Zimmerman, and Justice Wilson; two sisters, Patricia Jackson and Linda Andrews; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Lee Wilson and her parents.

Active pallbearers will be nephews, Ben Schons, David Schons and Rick Jones, son-in-law, Casey Ackerman, and extended family, Steven and Daniel Ackerman.  Honorary pallbearer will be Michael Wilson.

Our family would like to extend a special thank you to Southeast Hospice for their expertise, commitment, guidance, ethics and support which enabled Sharon to stay in her own home and live out the rest of her days without pain, suffering or lack of dignity. Any monetary donations we ask be made to this wonderful group who are now family and friends.
