Scott Joe Smith, 51, of McAlester, passed away Friday, October 7, 2022 at his home in McAlester.  Visitation with the family will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with the Rosary following at 6:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.  Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, October 14, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Krebs with Father Kingsley George-Obilonu officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in McAlester.  Pallbearers are Jim Hudson, Clem Santine, Marty McConnell, Thomas Potter, Andy Cade Smith, and Jack Trask.  Honorary pallbearers are Rick Potts and Renee Marino.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of McAlester.

Scott Joe Smith was born on July 31, 1971 in Lawton to Albert and Linda (Potts) Smith.  He grew up in McAlester where he attended school, graduating with the class of 1990.  He has lived here all his life except for 7 years in Amarillo.  Scott worked at Clem Santine's State Farm Insurance Agency.  Scott enjoyed spending time outdoors with his family and friends, of which he had many.  He loved to make people laugh and did it well.  He had a heart of gold and was known to be loyal and protective.  He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Krebs.  Scott is survived by his cat, Binx, and his fish, Sue Ellen; his parents, Albert and Linda Smith; a brother and sister-in-law, Andy Cade Smith and Chanel Savage-Smith; a sister, Erika Gilliam and her fiancé Robert Smith; a niece, Courtney Gilliam; nephews, Clinton Gilliam and Elijah Sennett; his best friend, Marty McConnell; and his godmother, Sharon Klippel.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Doralene Smith and Dick and Loreta Potts.
