Ruth Ann Meadows

Ruth Ann Meadows, 79, of Savanna, passed away Sunday, September 27, in Tulsa. The family will welcome friends for visitation on Tuesday, September 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home. Funeral services are set for Wednesday, September 30, at 2:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home, with Lance McAfee officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Troy Meadows, Chad Meadows, Hugh Meadows, Mike Smith, John David Garofoli and Chris Hackler. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Tarron, Jeremy McClain, Jerel Smith and Lloyd Belt. Ruth Ann Meadows was born on February 17, 1947 in Marble City, Okla. to Ezra “Buster” Rider and Sophie (Copeland) Rider. Ruth’s family moved to McAlester when she was young, and she grew up here and graduated from McAlester High School in 1965. She married Don Meadows, who was just out of the Navy, on September 4, 1966. Ruth went to work at the Army Ammunition Plant for 2 years, then went to beauty school and opened her beauty shop in Savanna. After 10 years as a beautician, she went back to work at the Base until her eventual retirement in 2006. In her spare-time, she loved to go crappie fishing, and could clean and clean up a pretty good batch of what she had caught. She was also “famous” for her giblet gravy on the holidays. Coconut cream pies were another specialty as well as lemon meringue pie she made especially for Don. She was a huge fan of OU Softball and didn’t miss watching a game on TV.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Jack Rider, Doyle Rider, Wayne Rider, Norman Rider and infant RL Rider; her sister Glady Wood. Ruth is survived by her husband, Don Meadows; her 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Paula Meadows, and Duane and Audra Meadows; her grandchildren, Troy Meadows and Maggie, Chad Meadows and Zoey, Olive Meadows, and Hugh Meadows; great grandchildren, Whitten Meadows, Legend Meadows; sisters, Thelma Smith and Pauline Lewis and husband Mike; 2 sisters-in-law and 1 brother-in-law, Diana Garofoli, Nancy Meadows, and Jay Schultz; and numerous nieces and nephews.  she was preceded in death by her parents and several siblings, Jack Rider, Doyle Rider, Wayne Rider, R.L. Rider and Gladys Wood.
