Obituary

Robert Paul Nichter, 77, of Higgins, passed away Friday, Sept. 10, at the Talihina Choctaw Hospital.  A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, Sept. 13, at 2:00 p.m. at the Mountain Station Cemetery with Garnett Parks officiating.

Robert Nichter was born on Dec. 10, 1943 in Talihina to Paul James Nichter and Annabelle (Pusley) Nichter.  He has lived in the Higgins area all his life and was married to Mary Jane Anderson Nichter for over 50 years.  He worked as a bridge and building carpenter for Rock Island Railroad for over 20 years and then worked as a heavy equipment mechanic in the oil fields for several years.  He had also owned and operated the R & R Auto Parts store in Wilburton.  He was one of those men who was not only a jack of all trades, but also a master of most.  He could build houses, cars, and probably most anything from the ground up.  In his spare time he loved to go to different areas and mine and pan for gold.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Nichter; grandchildren, John Paul Nichter and wife Sarah, Travis Woods, Forrest Woods, Seth Nichter, and Robert John Nichter, Jr.; great grandchildren, Kenidee Woods, Kruz Woods, Atom Woods, Phoenix Nichter, John Paul Nichter, Jr., Raelynn Nichter, and Rowdy Nichter;2 sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Arthur Brunson and Charlotte and Bobby Holt; and a brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Debbie Nichter.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Bobby John Nichter, Sr, and a daughter, Rebecca Nichter.
