Obituary

Randy Dean Martin, 53, of McAlester, passed away Thursday, April 8, at McAlester Regional Hospital.  Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 12, at 2:00 p.m. at the Tannehill Cemetery.

Randy Martin was born on July 7, 1967 in McAlester to J. W. Martin and Phyllis (Steen) Martin.  He grew up here and attended McAlester schools, then graduated from Indianola High School in 1985.  He worked at Komar & Sons for 2 years, then went to Atoka and worked at the Ethan Allen Furniture Plant for 5 years.  After that he worked for the Department of Corrections, as a   Correctional Officer, attaining the rank of Sergeant, at the Jackie Brannon facility in McAlester.  He retired in 2017.

Growing up in a rodeo family, Randy competed as a bull rider, in which he made the Oklahoma Rodeo Finals several times, and over the years won numerous saddles and buckles in that event.

Randy is survived by his mother, Phyllis Martin; a brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Joanna Martin; a sister and brother-in-law, Leslee and Ross Cullum; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father, J. W. Martin; a brother, Garry Don Martin; grandparents, Johnie and Ruth Martin and Walter and Mildred Steen; and uncles, Ronald Martin, Larry Don Martin; and a cousin, Monte Wade Martin.
