Obituary

Otis Lester Burks, 62, of Eufaula, formerly of McAlester, passed away Saturday, November 6, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, November 27, at 11:00 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in McAlester. The family invites friends of Otis to attend this service. A private burial will be held immediately following the public service.

Committed to a life of service, Otis Burks retired as both a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army and a postal service carrier for the city of McAlester, OK. Otis earned countless accolades, medals, and certificates during his Army service, never once scaling back his desire to learn. He served in two combat tours overseas and traveled the world to serve. Otis enjoyed spending his free time on Lake Eufaula fishing or boating, playing a sharp game of pool, and being surrounded by family and friends whenever possible.

Otis is survived by his sons, Codie Dwayne and Joshua James of McAlester; his daughter, Mandi Dawn Privett of Russellville, AR; grandsons Jaike, Skylar, Ethan, and Gavyn; granddaughter Grace Marie; his sisters Kathy Smith and Kay Ligon of McAlester, and his nephews Paul Peckio of Eufaula, Shawn Jean of McAlester, Jerry Barnes of McAlester, Delbert Dickson of Illinois and Wayne Hollingsworth of Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dicie Arndt; his father, Olen Burks; his sister, Shirley Scott; and his nephews Tony Burks, Donnie Burks, and Tommy Burks.
