Dr. Murlyn D. Bellamy passed away Sunday, August 14th, 2022, at Walnut Grove Living Center.
He was born to Gus and Edna Bellamy on July 18, 1933, at Medicine Mounds, Texas.
He graduated from high school in Sudan, Texas. He proceeded on to graduate from the University of Texas with degrees in Pharmacy in 1956 and Medicine in 1960. Murlyn completed his Internship in Pathology at St. Marks Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah in 1961. He became the Medical Officer with the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Hospital in Winslow, Arizona from 1961-1963. He was a Pathology Resident at the USPHS Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland from 1963-1967. From 1967-1968 he served as Chief of Pathology at the USPHS Hospital in Galveston, Texas. He then became Chief of Pathology at the USPHS Hospital in Baltimore Maryland from 1968-1969. He then became Director of Laboratories at McAlester Regional Hospital from 1969-2003. He was chosen Chief of Staff of McAlester Regional Hospital several times during his tenure there. He was also named one of the first Oklahoma Medical Examiners covering Southeastern Oklahoma.
Murlyn married Margaret (Peggy) Taylor in May of 1960, and together they had three daughters, Jane, Janet, and Jean. She predeceased him in January 1987.
Later in December of 1989, he married Tennie Belle Harmon who had two children, Tamara and Tony.
He was an ardent student of the Bible, and studied both Greek and Hebrew translations. Above all else, he loved his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Murlyn was an accomplished pilot and instructor of both multi-engine planes and helicopters. He captained their sailboat for many years, sailing from Florida to the Bahamas including the Exumas, Abacos and the Caribbean and back numerous times.
He was predeceased by his first wife Margaret (Peggy) Bellamy, his parents, Gus and Edna Bellamy, and his brothers, James Henry, Dwight, Ralph, and Gus Ed.
Murlyn is survived by his wife, Tennie Belle and his children, Jane and spouse Riley Seals, Janet and spouse John Mikos, Jean and spouse Tim Cameron. Tamara Morris, Tony and spouse Sue Ann Harmon, and by his brother Ronald and spouse Helen Bellamy, and sister-in-law Linda Sue Campbell. Brother-in-law, Anthony and Janice Stanczyk.
Also surviving him are his beloved grandchildren, Meagan and spouse Scott McGowen, Morgan and spouse Brayden Brumley, Carson Seals, Christian and Irina Mikos, J.D. and spouse Jayci Cameron, Jarrod Cameron, Calli Morris and fiancé William Markham, Corbin Morris, Kasey and spouse Rusty Trammell, Mathew and spouse Bailey Harmon. Also surviving him are numerous beloved great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family extends their deepest appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Stacy Hardy, Heartland Hospice, and the outstanding staff of caregivers at Walnut Grove Living Center.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor at First Baptist Church of McAlester, Saturday, August 20 th at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
