Mary Evelyn Lewis, 96, of McAlester, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022 in McAlester.  The family will welcome friends for viewing and visitation on Friday, October 21 ^st from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Saturday, October 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of McAlester.  Burial will follow at Indianola Cemetery.

Mary Lewis was born on August 10, 1926 in Indianola to James and Willie (French) Harrelson.  She grew up in Indianola and lived there until she moved to McAlester about 30 years ago.  She married A. C. Lewis on September 27, 1943 in Choate Prairie, and he preceded her in death in 2012.  Mary worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone while her husband was serving military service, then when he returned home, she took care of the household and raising their children.  She was very active in the churches she attended, Choate Prairie Baptist Church, Indianola Baptist Church, then McAlester First Baptist Church.  She started leading the music at the age of 12 and continued that till she was unable to do so.  She also taught Sunday School classes all that time.  She was also active in community service, including PTA when her kids were in school, and Home Demonstration for many years.  She also enjoyed sewing and especially spending time with her grandkids, great grandkids and great great grandkids.

Mary is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Benny Davis; a son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Linda Lewis; a daughter-in-law, Mary Lewis; a sister, Ruby Weddle; grandchildren, Bradley Ragan and wife Barbara, Bryan Ragan and wife Beth, Shanna Barger, Chris Lewis and wife Lindsey, Jordan Lewis, Kristin Lewis and husband Kyle Horlen, Jeff Lewis and wife Monet, Kim Kennedy and husband Jonathan, and Keith Davis; great grandchildren, Breanna Ragan and Dustin Sistrunk and their children Brynlee and Dollyn, Alex Clark and her son Brody, Garrett Ragan and wife Morgan and their daughter Baylor, Brooklyn Ragan, Landen Ragan, Luke Kennedy and wife Sierra and their children Ryan and Wyatt, Mark Kennedy, Madelyn Kennedy, Grayson Barger, Ava Clair Barger, Henry Barger, Taitum Lewis, Georgia Lewis, Livia Horlen, Grant Horlen, Ruby Lewis and Hope Lewis.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Dennis Lewis; her grandparents, J. L. and Mertie French; a brother, Don Harrelson; a brother-in-law, Bob Weddle; and a sister-in-law, Mary Joe Shepard.
