Mark Steven Rains, 71, of McAlester, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2026 in McAlester.

Graveside funeral services are set for Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hugh Low Cemetery near Scipio, with Pastor Mike Perry officiating.

Steve Rains was born on July 6, 1955 in McAlester to Winfred and JoAnn (Lee) Rains.  He grew up in the Scipio area and graduated from McAlester High School with the class of 1973.  Other than a short time living in Oregon, Steve has lived in this area all his life.  He has worked several different jobs, drove a school bus for Indianola schools, and had worked at Camp Classen in Davis, Oklahoma, a YMCA sponsored summer camp for young kids and families.  He was a member of the Indianola First Baptist Church.  Steve had also served in the Oklahoma National Guard for several years.

Steve is survived by his sister, Jane Freer and her husband Ed; a brother-in-law, Randy Chapman; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas Rains; a sister, Christie Chapman; and a niece, Malinda Freer.
