Margene Linthicum Crowl, 91, of McAlester, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022 at her home.  Her request was for a nontraditional celebration of her life.  On Friday, April 22, the public is invited to an Open House to be held at the First Presbyterian Church of McAlester from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Margene was born on July 25, 1930 to Ethel and Ed Linthicum in Omaha, Nebraska.  After her parents separated, she lived with her mother and her younger sister, Delores, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and later moved to McAlester when she was a teenager.

She graduated from McAlester High School and Oklahoma State University and a number of years later, she received a master's degree from East Central University.

She married Tom Crowl on December 27, 1952 and moved to Victorville, California where Tom was serving in the Air Force.  They moved back to McAlester and had their children: Cindy, Todd and Mark Crowl and years later, Chassity Click joined the family.

Margene was a teacher at heart.  She taught art at Puterbaugh Middle School, McAlester High School and Will Rogers Elementary for 28 years total.  She also taught an adult Sunday School Class at First Presbyterian for 50 years.  Teaching was one of the joys of her life.

Margene and Tom enjoyed traveling to exciting places like Europe and the Olympics in Spain as well as going to their log cabin on the Illinois River.  She was an avid reader and was always looking for a new recipe to try.

Margene is survived by her husband, Tom; her children, Cindy (Mark) Visser, Todd (Marisa) Crowl, Mark (Joy) Crowl and Chassity (Jeff) Sherman.  She has 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Ed Linthicum and her sister, Delores Perkins.
