Luther Carr, 85, of McAlester, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Jack Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee. The family will welcome friends for viewing and visitation at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home on Friday, March 3, from 5:30 to 7:30. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Kerry Kirkhart officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bobby Ridenour, Billy Ridenour, Gary Ridenour, Tommy Sherman, Jonathan White, Joshua White, Dylan Hutchcraft, and David Buck. Honorary pallbearers are Loren Bevans, Don Brumley, Bob Anderson, Bill Jack Ridenour, Darell Buck, David Edmonds and Jim Edmonds.
Luther Carr was born on March 6, 1937 in Higley, Arizona to Alvin and Muriel (Hodges) Carr. His family settled in McAlester when Luther was a young boy, and after graduating high school, he joined the U. S. Navy, and 4 months after enlisting, he married Pat Ridenour on April 20, 1955. After 3 years of active duty military service, Luther received his honorable discharge and returned to McAlester, where he and Pat raised their 3 girls. He also served 6 years in the Navy Reserves. Luther was a mechanic by profession and worked for Kelley Motors, then Public Service Company, and finally Flint Oil Company until his retirement. Luther enjoyed outdoor activities, such as metal detecting and arrowhead hunting, and was always tinkering with something around the house. He and Pat also loved to travel, whether on short sight-seeing trips to the Kiamichi Mountains, or long, cross-country drives when they would be gone for a number of days.
Luther is survived by his daughters, Debra Carr and husband Jeffery White, LaDonna Robinson and husband Jeff, and Christie Carr and fiancé Roy Davis; grandchildren, Yvonne Johnson, Jessica Hutchcraft and Dylan, Joshua White and Brittany, Jonathan White and Nicole, and Elisa Wright and Coleman; great grandchildren, McClaine Wright, Carter Wright, Hannah White, Ellie Wright, Izac Johnson, Sam Wright, Izaiah Johnson, Ryder Hutchcraft, Fiona White, Stryker Hutchcraft, and Grace White; a brother, Burl Carr and Judy; 4 sisters, Nobolene Ragan, Edna Hatchett and Jerry, Sandy Sherman, and Linda Joslin; a brother-in-law, Bill Jack Ridenour and Gloria; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Pat
