Obituary

Lavonia Sue Porter, 89, of McAlester, passed away Friday, Sept. 5, at her  home.  Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 11:00 a.m. at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Weleetka, with Pastor Dale Litsky officiating.

Lavonia Sue was born on June 10, 1936 in Hoffman, Okla. to Chester and Sophronia (Price) Baird.  She graduated from Okmulgee High School and immediately went to work as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co.  She retired after 30 years of service to the company.  She married Charles Edwin Porter on Feb. 18, 1954.  Lavonia was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene in McAlester, where she was the organist for many years.

Lavonia is survived by her daughter, Teresa Black and her husband George; 2 sons, Charles Porter and his wife Daleen, and Wesley Porter and his wife Jennifer; 6 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her parents, 2 sisters, and 1 brother.
