Lavada Ruth Cochran, 97, of McAlester, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023 at McAlester Regional Health Center. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 12, at 10:00 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home, with Brother Rob Lungstrum officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Johns, Arnold Cochran, Jr., Dax Cochran, Daniel Cochran, Bradley Cochran, and Clay Potter. Honorary pallbearers are Johnny Johns, Lee Dobbs, and Kev in Connor.
Lavada Cochran was born on July 24, 1926 in Victoria, Texas to Willie Lee Gregory and Thresia Dell (Greenwood) Gregory. At the age of 13, her family moved to Heavener, where Lavada grew up. She came to McAlester in 1960. Lavada married Henry Denton Cochran in 1946, and he preceded her in death in 1992. Lavada was a member of the North A Street Church of Christ, and her love of her church was second only to her love for her family.
Lavada is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Johnny Johns; her grandchildren, Jeff Johns and wife Jessica, Arnold Cochran, Jr. and wife Cyndi, Amy Siler and husband Mike, Heather McQueen and husband Larry, Dax Cochran, Leighanne Johnson and husband Curtis, Bradley Cochran and wife Emily, Amanda Wainscott and husband Rowdy, and Daniel Cochran; 17 great grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Deborah Cochran, and Jo Beth Cochran; and a special nephew, Clay Potter. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sons, Danny Cochran and Arnold Cochran, Sr.; a sister, Billie Potter; and brothers, George Gregory, Clarence "Bud" Gregory, and Jack Gregory.
