Kenneth Keith Major, known affectionately as "Toots" by his loved ones, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 14, at the age of 71 years.  Viewing will be on Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 18, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church in McAlester, with Brother Mark Hennen officiating.  Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.  Pallbearers are Andrew Major, Chad Cooksey, Kent Towne, Bucky Harp, Dakota Elmore, and Brody Hinkle.  Honorary pallbearers will be Deakon Major and Rodney Kelley.   Flower girls are Memrie Tohkubbi, Keehanna Major, Cali Major, Eboni Major, Genell Towne, and Shannon Kelley.

Keith Major was born on June 29, 1954 in McAlester to Kenneth and norma Jean (Funderburg) Major.  Keith's life was a testament to his enduring faith, his unwavering commitment to his family, and his passion for the simple joys of life.  Keith graduated from McAlester High School in 1972, before furthering his education at Eastern Oklahoma State College and Southeastern Oklahoma State College.  His keen eye for detail led him to a fulfilling career with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, where he served as a dedicated surveyor for 40 years.

Keith met the love of his life in grade school, Gayla Christian.  They later were married on May 15, 1976.  They shared 49 years of marriage that stood as a testament of enduring love, partnership and devotion.  Hand in hand, they explored the world, traveling to many countries and proudly visiting all 50 states, collecting memories, stories, and adventures along the way.  Keith and Gayla's love story will continue to inspire all who knew them, reminding us what it means to truly love and be loved.

Those who knew Keith will remember him as a man who could fix anything with his hands, who had a selfless heart, and who approached life with a playful and joyful outlook.  He was a one-of-a-kind jokester, bringing laughter to any room.  His favorite past-times included piddling outside in his garden, where he found peace and solace; and fishing.

A Christian by faith, Keith was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church.  Keith lived a life that echoed the teaching of Christ, showing love and kindness in all his actions.  He was a pillar of strength and support for his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Keith is survived by his loving wife, Gayla Major; his children, Kevin Major and wife Eboni, and Christopher Major; a sister-in-law, Genell Towne and husband Kent; a brother-in-law, Douglas Christian; nephews, Chad Coodsey and wife Michelle, Scott Towne and wife Becky; his cherished grandchildren, Memrie Tohkubbi, Dakota Elmore, Keehanna Major and Brody Hinkle, Andrew Major and wife Cali, and Deakon Major; and his adored great grandchildren, Scottie Elmore, Tate Hinkle, Leo Hinkle, Vallie Hinkle, and soon-to-be name-sake, Walker Keith Major.  His legacy continues through them, and the love he shared will forever be etched in their hearts.  Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Norma Jean and Kenneth Major, and his sister, Karen Morgan.

As we reflect on Keith's life, we are reminded of the words of scripture: "Well done, good and faithful servant: (Matthew 25:23).  This verse encapsulates the essence of Keith's journey on earth – a journey marked by good work, faithful service to his family and community.  Let us honor Keith's memory by emulating his virtues in our own lives.  He will be deeply missed, but the impact of his live and the memories shared will forever be treasured.
