Obituary

Kenneth Robert Hayes, 75, of McAlester, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at his home.

A Rosary service will be recited on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in McAlester.  Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Krebs, Oklahoma with Father Kingsley George-Obilonu officiating.  Burial will follow at Chambers Cemetery with full military honors provided by the United States Navy.  Active pallbearers will be Chris Sutterfield, Gene Peevy, Lawrence Scarpitti, Michael Prichard, Stephen Dunbar and Lee Wilcox.  Honorary pallbearers will be Justin Wilcox, Shawn Cummings, Richard Wells, Johnathan Glenn, McAlester Elks Lodge #533 Members, Combat Vets Motorcycle Club and the Krebs Fire Department.

Kenneth was born on May 21, 1948 in McAlester, Oklahoma to Herbert and Claudia (Herra) Hayes.  He graduated from McAlester High School and then went into the United States Navy, where he served in Vietnam.  He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 40 years of service and the Krebs Fire Department after 30 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his son and grandkids, eating Sunday night dinner with his family, riding motorcycles, being outdoors, and hanging with his friends at the Elks Lodge. He was a member of the McAlester Elks Lodge #533, the Combat Vets Motorcycle Club and the Krebs Fire Department. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Krebs, Oklahoma.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Priscilla Hayes of McAlester, OK; grandkids, Ayden Hayes, Keeley Hayes and Suttyn Hayes; his dog, Harley Hayes; mother of his children, Vicki McKee; special friends, Mary Kilhoffer, Trish Jennings and Paula Figueroa.

He was preceded in death by one son, Brian Hayes; father, Herbert Hayes; mother, Claudia Hayes; brother, Tommy Hayes and sister-in-law, Maxine Hayes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the McAlester Elks Lodge #533.
