Funeral services for Kenneth Alan Bethune, will be held Saturday, November 30th at 3:00 p.m. at Northtown Church of Christ, with Randy Walters officiating along with Rob Lungstrum and Preston Rodgers. Services will be under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Ashland cemetery.

Kenneth Alan Bethune was born September 27, 1960 in McAlester to Walter L. Bethune and Carol Ann (Sisco) Bethune. He passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at his home at the age of 64 years with family by his side.

In 1985, he met Denise Stipe at "The Meeting Place" in McAlester, and were married in 1987. In 1990, Katie Ann was born and in 1993, Emily Alyn was born.

Kenneth spent most of his childhood in McAlester, OK. He was a 1978 graduate of McAlester High School. He attended Eastern Oklahoma State College then later attended East Central University where he received a Bachelor's in Biology with a minor in chemistry.

He learned the value of hard work early and had several jobs throughout his life: Oklahoma State Penitentiary, Cash Saver grocery and he interned at Sam Noble foundation in Ada while in college. After earning his degree, he was employed at Edison Plastics for 10 years. He became a reserve officer for the Pittsburg County Sheriff's Department, then in 1999 he was employed as a patrolman with the McAlester Police Department where he became a master patrolman, served on the special response team, and later served as a detective, until he retired in 2018 due to health issues. He worked at Pittsburg County district 3 as a safety officer then later at Pittsburg County Health Department as a sanitarian before he fully retired. He was a dedicated hard-working man to provide for his family. His hobbies included deer hunting, fishing in his pond, deer management on his land, driving his tractor, studying the bible, and sharing God's word, spending time with his family and grandchildren. He took pride in his farm work as a caretaker of the land God allowed him to enjoy.

He was a member of North A Street church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, daughter Katie Potter and husband Thaxal, grandchildren Caybree, Addisyn, and Jameson, daughter Emily Bethune and boyfriend Darnell Smith, and grandson, Darnell Smith Jr., brother Rick Bethune and wife Debbie, and brother Randy Bethune, step-sister Darla Ferguson, uncle Billy Bethune and wife Marilyn, mothers-in-law Carol Stipe and Zelda Kennedy, sister-in-law Nikki Riley, brother-in-law Jack Stipe and wife Amy, sister-in-law Charlee Ziverk and husband Steven, brother-in-law Ken Sparks, nieces and nephews; Brooke Bethune, Caleb Verner, Jackson Stipe, Holden Stipe, Lane Stipe, Noah Sparks, Devon King, and Kara Seeley, Matt Childers, and Martin Childers; great-nephew Troy Pettigrew, cousins Aleen Wilson, Bobbi Jones, Jarie Daniels, Travis Seeley and wife Kami, Denvey Sisco and wife Kristie, special cousin Rachel Morrison, good friend Neil Fisher, and friends more like brothers Windell Henry and Toby Rains and wife Arlinda, and daughters Shanda Parker and Deana King, beloved German Shepard Lulu, church family, and other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, step-father John Tigert, step-mother Terral Bethune, grandparents Jimmy Sisco (papa) and Doll Alexander Sisco (mama), Ruth Helen Murdock Bethune (nanaw), step-sister Elaina Sparks, father-in-law Denver Stipe, grandparents-in-law Nood and Ethel Sennett, friends that were more like brothers Richard Parker and Danny Kelley, and his first German Shepherd Annie.

Serving as active pallbearers will be McAlester Police Department Honor Guard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Bethune, Randy Bethune, Thaxal Potter, Jack Stipe, Windell Henry, and Toby Rains.
