Karen Ann McGee, 67, of McAlester, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026 at McAlester Regional Health Center. Viewing will be Thursday, June 4th, at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home, with family visitation from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday, June 5, at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Glenn Meyer officiating. There will be no cemetery services following the church service.
Karen Ann McGee was born on Dec. 12, 1958 in Minneapolis, MN to Gerald Henry Valenta and Shirley Mae (Beltrand) Valenta. Karen came to McAlester with her family in the 1970's, and met her soon-to-be husband, Kenneth McGee, in 1977. They were married on May 20, 1978, and made their home and raised their children in McAlester. Karen was not one to sit idle. She started her work career at Seamprufe, then worked at the Holiday Inn Restaurant, as well as other area restaurants, until going to work at the Carl Albert Mental Health hospital as a cook, where she retired after 33 years. In her spare-time, she loved to sew, crochet and solve crossword puzzles. She was also a big baseball fan, her team being the St. Louis Cardinals.
Karen is survived by her husband, Kenneth McGee; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle Fields and husband Cameron, and Susan McGee and husband Kevin Waldron; grandchildren, Robbie Waldron and Connor Fields; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Melody Valenta, and Nicholas and Michelle Valenta; her step-mother, Linda Valenta; a brother-in-law, Daniel McGee; and 2 sisters-in-law, Glenda Crawley and Kim McGee. She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, including her 102 year-old grandmother, who passed away just recently; a sister, Tina Kluck; a brother, J. J. Valenta; a niece, Lilly Sophia Valenta and several aunts.
