Obituary

Dr. Jon Michael McCauley, 63, of McAlester, OK, passed away on May 4, 2023 at McAlester Regional Health Center. He was born on December 17, 1959 in McAlester, OK, to Dr. Joe and Audrey McCauley. He grew up in McAlester where he attended Grand Avenue United Methodist Church and McAlester High School. After graduation, in the class of 1978, he went on to attend Oklahoma State University and earned a degree in Zoology, followed by earning a medical degree, completing Internal Medicine residency and Nephrology Fellowship at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He married his high school sweetheart, Debbie McCauley, and they had three children, Lauren, Kati, and Kyle. He was a devoted father who enjoyed coaching his children's and grandchildren's sports teams and attending every special event, including dance recitals, cheer competitions, and sporting events.

He worked as a board-certified Nephrologist. His career began at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, OK, from 1993-2000. He returned to his hometown of McAlester in 2000, where he practiced Nephrology and was instrumental in building the W.E. Allford Dialysis Center, where he served as Medical Director. He served as the Medical Director of the Pittsburg County Health Department for many years, and most recently served as the Medical Director of DaVita Dialysis Center. He was faithful to serve on numerous committees and boards including his church, MRHC, and the Boy's and Girl's Club of McAlester. He was instrumental in the construction of First United Methodist Church. He was known for his compassion, dedication, knowledge, and willingness to go above and beyond, which earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues, patients, and friends alike. In his free time, he loved playing golf, snow skiing, OU football, reading, spending time at the lake, traveling, gardening, and watching Gunsmoke. Most of all, "Pops" loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Debbie McCauley, his daughter Kati Vaughn and husband Cory, his son Dr. Kyle McCauley and wife Emerielle, and his grandchildren, Gunnar, Saylor, Sawyer, and Sutton Vaughn, and Luke McCauley. He is also survived by his sister Karen McCauley and wife Vicki, and father-in-law Ronald Marlow. He was preceded in death by his daughter Lauren, parents Dr. Joe and Audrey McCauley, and brothers Joe, Mark, and Matt McCauley. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, May 8th at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church of McAlester.
