Obituary

Johnny Lee Barney, 86, of Ada, formerly of Hartshorne, passed away Thursday, July 28, in Hartshorne.  Viewing will be Sunday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne.  Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 1, at 10:00 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in Hartshorne, with Pastor Kenny Morrow officiating.  Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Jim Shelton, Danny Angeli, Joe Hollis, Johnny Barney, II, Jacob Barney, and Johnny Barney, III.

Johnny Lee Barney was born on Oct. 26, 1935 in Hartshorne to Flo and Bena Barney.  He grew up in Hartshorne and graduated from Hartshorne High School in 1954.  He joined the U.S. Army out of high school and served over 3 years before receiving his honorable discharge.  After a short time in college, he returned to Hartshorne and began a long and successful career of training race horses.  That work took him to training horses in El Paso, Raton, and Ruidoso.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Christine Barney; his children, Tina Schuh and Johnny Barney; 4 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
