John Albert Peters, 67, of Haileyville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 18, 2023, after fighting a lengthy illness.

John was born on August 30, 1955 in McAlester to Albert and Margaret (Wood) Peters.  He was the loving husband of Kay Peters, caring step father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He worked for Pittsburg County for many years and retired from Carl Albert.  He loved history, blues music, back roads, road trips with his wife, feeding stray animals (mostly cats,) gardening, supporting local music artist by sharing their music.  He had a passion to keep the blues alive.  He was a DJ for 105.1, Jammin John Boogie Down Blues show for many years.  He loved his family and friends and will be deeply missed.  It's not goodbye but see you later.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Peters; step-children, Orlanda Lopez, Isaac Lopez (wife, Rachel), Tonya Lopez (husband, Tommy) and Robin Flores (husband, Victor); grandchildren, Rico Yslas, Gabriela Lopez, Zander West, Carlie Johnson, Shayanna Lopez, Kaylynn Lopez, Ethan Lewis, Mersadyes Lewis, Lucas Lewis, Cameron Warden, Cadence Warden, Victoria Flores, Ava Flores, Kane Flores, and Zable Flores; great-grandchildren, Isabella Lopez and Xandyn West.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Peters; mother, Margaret Wood and bonus mom Ike.

Honorary pallbearers are John Walker, Zack Daffy and Sam Burow.

Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne.  Immediately following the memorial service, the family will have a celebration of life for John at the Hartshorne Lake.
