John K. Goodyear passed away peacefully on October 9, 2021.

John K. Goodyear was born in Macon, Georgia on August 13, 1936.  His parents were Kendrick and Mattie Belle (Bridges) Goodyear.  John attended Gresham Grammar School and graduated from Lanier High School in 1955.  He attended Mercer University and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Business in 1959.

After graduating, he was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps.  He served at Quantico, Virginia; the Mediterranean; McAlester, Oklahoma; Cherry Point, North Carolina; Albany, Georgia; and Headquarters, Washington, DC.

When he was stationed in Oklahoma, he met and married Judy Cacy.  They were blessed with a daughter, Karen, and twin sons, John B. and Kendrick A.  John was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.

John retired from the Marine Corps in 1979 and went to work in the insurance industry.  He remained there until 1994 when he joined America Online, finally retiring to Oklahoma and settled in McAlester.

Upon retirement, John became involved with several organizations, including the Salvation Army, SERTOMA, Meals on Wheels, McAlester Tree Board, and local politics.

John had an interest in genealogy and was a keen student of the stock and financial markets.

John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy; his three children, Karen, Johnny and Kenny; and seven grandchildren, John, Madison, Paige, Jacob, Joshua, Jack and Emma.

The family held a private ceremony, and, in lieu of flowers, they request donations be made in his name to the Meals on Wheels program of McAlester.
