Obituary

John Carmine DeLeo, age 91, passed away on October 23, 2024, in McAlester, Oklahoma. Born on December 16, 1932, to Italian immigrants Enrico and Erminia Costa DeLeo, John's zest for life was evident in his love for family, opera, food, good wine, and his cherished wife, Donna Adam DeLeo.

John proudly served in the Navy during the Korean War, stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Philippine Sea from 1950 to 1953. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to law enforcement, progressing from police officer to Deputy Sheriff, and later Police Chief, before retiring as the Westchester County, NY Police Commissioner. He also served as Head of Security for Hilti in Tulsa, OK, where he met Donna. They married on January 30, 1987.

John and Donna were members of St. John's Church in McAlester. His hobbies included sailing, cooking, and savoring Donna's southern dishes. He also enjoyed reading, playing chess, and cherished moments with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

John is survived by his loving wife, Donna; sister, Dominica Loglisci; son, John DeLeo; daughters, Jayne Stephens, and Joyce DeLeo Splaine; stepsons, Tracy and Todd Adam; grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jessica, Cheryl, Nicholas, Taylor, Turner, Christian, Kayleigh, Charlene, Jeffrey, Tate and Kennedy; and great-grandchildren, Toby, Briella, Austin, Kit, Harvey, Hattie, and Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Annunziata, Rocco, Joseph, Angelica, and William.

A Veteran Memorial Service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC, with details pending. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Southeast Hospice, McAlester, OK.

John's legacy of passion, service, and family will be forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.
