Joey Dean Trammell, Sr., 59, of McAlester, passed away Tuesday, April 27, at McAlester Regional Health Center.

The family will welcome friends for visitation on Sunday, May 2, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Monday, May 3, at 2:00 p.m. at the Frink Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Monty Thompson and Rev. Jerry Holloway.  Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Trevor Dunbar, Odis Trammell, II, Landon Trammell, Randy King, Chris Troussel and Ross Selman.  Honorary pallbearers are Terry Kinyon, Kevin Smith, Charlie Rogers, Les Roberts, Chris Flaherty, Doy Adams and the staff of Frink Chambers School, and employees of the Pittsburg County Courthouse.

Joey Trammell was born on November 3, 1961 in McAlester to Sherman Odis Trammell and Ruby Flossie (Burch) Trammell.  He grew up here and has lived here all his life.  He attended Frink-Chambers School through the 8 ^th grade, then graduated from McAlester High School in 1980.  While in high school he was enrolled in the Kiamichi Vo-Tech Carpentry class.  He then attended Eastern Oklahoma State College.  Joey started his work career as a young teenager by getting a paper route with the McAlester News Capital.  He continued working there, working through the mail room, then as assistant circulation manager, and finally as the press room manager.  After his career at the paper, he went to work at McLain's Lumber Yard for a couple of years, before going to work at the Pittsburg County Courthouse as the maintenance supervisor, a position he currently held.  He and Shelia Kay Jones were married on May 15, 1981.  Joey was a man of many talents, one of which was carpentry. He loved making shadow boxes for retiring police officers.  Joey and his wife, Shelia, always enjoyed traveling and camping with their 5 ^th wheel camper, and had recently changed to an RV.  They loved it and if they weren't traveling in it, Joey was probably working on it.  He was also a big OU fan and a fan of NASCAR racing.  He was a member of the Frink Baptist Church.

Joey is survived by his wife, Shelia Trammell of the home; grandchildren, Peyton Trammell of the home, Dylan Trammell, Chason Trammell, and Presley Trammell, all of McAlester, and Skylar Jones of Tulsa; his mother, Ruby Trammell of McAlester; sisters, Carolyn Barlow of Muskogee, Sharon Klippel and husband Larry of McAlester, and Linda King and husband Rocky of Muskogee; a brother, Odis Trammell and wife Hope of McAlester; brothers-in-law, Larry Jones and wife Linda of Point, Tx., Mark Jones and wife Phyllis of Lawton, and David Jones and wife Sharon of Lawton; and a sister-in-law, Debra Cheatham of Borger, Tx.; and numerous nieces and nephews, to all of whom he was very close.

He was preceded in death by his son, Joey Trammell, Jr.; his father, Sherman Trammell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Evia Jones; two brothers-in-law, Bobby Jones and Bobby Dunbar.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  One of Joey's greatest joys was helping children.
