Obituary

Joe Stone, 91, of McAlester, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023 in McAlester.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 15th at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, October 16th at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of McAlester, with Rodney Briggs and Clint Gray officiating.  Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.  Pallbearers are Michael Stone, Todd Stone, Camden Stone, Cache Stone, Caden Lesnau, and Payton Gray.  Honorary pallbearers are Don Hass, Johnny Gibson, Matt McGowan and Leroy Sisco.

Joe Stone was born on January 15, 1932 in Kaw City, Okla to Burleigh and Viola (Thorman) Stone.  His family moved to McAlester when he was about 10 years old and he has lived here ever since.  After graduating from McAlester High School he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 2 years during the Korean War.  Joe and June Pusley were married on June 16, 1952 and recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.  Joe worked in law enforcement for many years, with the McAlester Police Department, Pittsburg County Sheriff, Oklahoma State Penitentiary, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, where he worked as dispatcher for over 10 years.  He also worked as a machinist at Rockwell for over 7 years.  Joe was a member of the NRA and the local Rod and Gun club.  Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman for most of his life, he loved the outdoors.  He has held the Oklahoma State record for the Kentucky Small Mouth Spotted Bass since 1958.  He loved working in his yard and loved God and witnessed to and encouraged others always.  He loved and prayed for all of his family from the oldest to the youngest every day; but most of all he loved his beautiful wife, June, for over 71 years of marriage.  We will miss him always, but we will see him again.  Heaven awaits.  Joe was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of McAlester for many years.

Joe is survived by his wife, June Stone; children, Brent and Debbie Stone, Sherry and Mark Andrews, and Kevin and Sonya Stone; grandchildren, Britton and Carl Hackler, Michael Stone, Todd and Sammie Stone, Stormy and Raymond Doke, Misty and Paul DeLaune, Wendy and Clint Gray, Lacy Lesnau, and Hailey and Brandon Pinson; great grandchildren, Aaron and Sayler VanVekoven, Mason and Allie Mershon, Hunter and Alex Wilson, Anna Doke, Brasen Hackler, Kaylee DeLaune, Camden Stone, Maddison DeLaune, Ella Stone, Brooklynn DeLaune, Auggi Stone, Payton Gray, Wriglee Stone, Caden Lesnau, Cy Bo Stone, Rylan Lesnau, Cache Stone, Bryson Pinson, Kye Stone, Presley Pinson, and Anniston Stone; great great grandchildren, Kender VanVekoven, River VanVekoven, Avery Wilson, Reagan Wilson, Winston Mershon, and Lune Mershon;2 sisters, Treva Stamps and Marjorie Taylor.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Glen Stone, and a great granddaughter, Carsyn Kay Hackler.
