Jimmy David Herrin, 76, of Indianola, passed away Monday, September 4, 2023 at his home near Indianola.  The family will welcome friends for visitation on Friday, September 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Saturday, September 9, at 10:00 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home with Mike Ross officiating.  Burial will follow at Indianola Cemetery.  McAlester's VFW Post 1098 will provide military honors.  Pallbearers will be members of area volunteer firefighter departments.  Honorary pallbearer is Newton Ceat.

Jimmy Herrin was born on November 8, 1946 in Indianola to J. D. Herin and Etta (Henderson) Herrin.  He grew up, for the most part, in Indianola, except for a few years in California.  He graduated from Indianola High School with the class of 1965.  Jimmy married Barbara Jean Nale on January 2, 1969 in Eufaula.  She preceded him in death in 2021.  Jimmy worked as a supervisor for the State Department of Transportation until his retirement several years ago.  Jimmy also ranched all his life, until just a few years ago.  Jimmy and his wife, Barbara, also served as foster parents for many years, helping almost 100 kids.  He also had a real passion for the Indianola Volunteer Fire Department, having helped establish the department, and working as a volunteer and leader for many years.  Jimmy had also served in the U. S. Army during the Viet Nam era.

Jimmy is survived by 2 brothers, Bob Herrin of Indianola, and Joe Dale Herrin of Virginia; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann Wood and husband Chuck; and a special friend, Loretta Brown.  He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and 2 brothers, Wayne and Allen Herrin.
