Jerry Lee Smith, 88, of McAlester, passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, at McAlester Regional Health Center. Visitation will be Monday until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 2:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Chip Lott officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mark Smith, Jeremy Nave, Jerry Nave, Earnest Watkins, Eddie Clark, and Greg Ervin.
Jerry Lee Smith was born on May 14, 1935 in Quinton to Eddy and Minnie Bell (Hammer) Smith. He grew up on the family farm near Quinton. He and Mary Harris were married on Oct. 30, 1959 in McAlester. Jerry served in the U. S. Army until he received his honorable discharge. He worked for 15 years at the McAlester Oil Mill until he was severely injured in an industrial accident in 1975. After his recovery, he became a "handy-man", mowing lawns and doing household repair jobs, since he could do or fix about anything. He also liked to hunt and fish over the years. He was a devoted member of the Calvary Baptist Church of McAlester.
Jerry is survived by his children, Lisa Diane Smith Beard and husband Michael, Amy Blevins, and Edward Lee Smith and wife Johnna; 7 grandchildren, Megan Baumann and Jordan, Caleb Beard and Miranda, Jerry Jewell and Jacob, Jeffrey Blevins, Jeramy Blevins, Jacob Blevins, and Phoebe Smith; a sister, Lillie Faye Sigler; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jerry Nave. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary, an infant son, Jerry Don Smith, 4 brothers, Raymond, Bob, Leon and Jack Smith; and a sister, Bea Webster.
