Jerry Fugitt, 86, of McAlester, passed away Monday, July 11, 2022 at his home with his family at his side.  Funeral services will be Thursday, July 14, at 2:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.  Pallbearers are Shannon McKaughan, Phillip Neill, Roy Paul Rodgers, Jeremy Turney, Donnie Weddle, and Sam Martinez.  Honorary pallbearers are Nick Knutson and all the friends with the Missouri Fox Trotters Association and the Field Trial Association.  The family prefers no flowers and suggests a donation to Mike's Club of McAlester or to a favorite charity in Jerry's honor.

Jerry L. Fugitt was born on June 10, 1936 in Republic, Missouri, the son of James Lloyd Fugitt and Edith Margaret (Gilmore) Fugitt.  His family moved to McAlester around 1964 and they owned and operated the Hiway Lodge for many years.  Jerry eventually retired and turned his hobby into a career of breeding and training birddogs and Missouri Fox Trotters, a special breed of horses.  It was in McAlester that Jerry met his future wife, Tommy McDaniel; they were married in Oklahoma City on July 26, 1978.  Jerry had also served in the Navy Reserves.  Jerry was a member of the Frink Baptist Church.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Tommy Fugitt; a daughter, Michelle Fugitt and Donnie Weddle, and a son, Roy Paul Rodgers; grandchildren, Shannon McKaughan and wife Beth, Holly (McKaughan) Neill and husband Phillip, Emalee Rodgers, Maggi Neill, and Allison McKaughan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Buster and Letricia McDaniel, Ruyana Fugitt, Sammy Warren, and Sue McDaniel.  Jerry was preceded in death by children, Kelli Diane Fugitt, Roy Howard McKaughan, and Jackie Ray McKaughan, his parents, James and Edith Fugitt, a brother, Gary Fugitt, and uncle, Roy Rodgers, and a brother-in-law, Porter McDaniel.
