Jerry Wayne
Deaton
Jan 5, 1944 — Aug 8, 2021
Moore
Jerry Wayne Deaton, 77, of Moore, OK passed away at home, August 8, 2021. Jerry was born January, 5, 1944 in Stonewall, OK to Clarence Daniel Deaton and Riccie Lorene (Compton) Deaton Yates. He was raised and attended school in Savanna, OK where he met the love of his life, Jackie Lee Park. They were married January 26, 1963 in Savanna where they made their home, started their family, and began raising their son, Jeffery.
Jerry began his career at the Naval Ammunition Depot. In 1974, he was transferred to Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, OK. He retired from Tinker in 2006 after forty years of civil service.
Jerry was a member of NHRA. He, Jackie, and Jeff were a racing family. Jerry and Jackie spent many hours building racing engines for their cars, and Jeff would come give his thumbs-up approval after the work was done. Jerry would always say, "Work was going good until Jackie's diamonds got dirty, and we had to come to a halting stop." Deaton Racing started with a '69 Camaro, and over time, they raced several different classes winding up in Super Comp Dragsters where the father and son sometimes got to meet at the starting line in competition. When not racing cars, Jerry, Jackie, and Jeff, along with their friends, enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and attending rallies.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Jackie, of the home; sister, Barbara Roberson and husband, Randy; nieces and nephews, Robbye Watts, Stacye Lay, Debbie Kempe, David Deaton, Jimmy Deaton, Linda Tackel, Keith Estes, Michael Vogt, Malyn Crandall, Kim Reich, and Wynn Shreffler; special cousins Trish (Park) Lantzy, Belva (Park) Yandell, Roland Michaud, Yvonne (Michaud) Wood, and Ida Michaud; also survived by lifelong friends, Ken, Pat, Kendra and Andy Gross.
