Janell Marie (Proctor) Kaufhardt, 68, of McAlester, passed away Wednesday, December 8, at her home, with her family around her.  A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, December 15, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of McAlester with Rev. D. Scott Vandenheuvel officiating.

Janell Marie (Proctor) Kaufhardt was born on February 12, 1953 in McAlester to John and Mozelle (Hill) Proctor.  She grew up here and graduated from McAlester High School with the class of 1971.  She attended the University of Oklahoma, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority, and earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree and nurse certification.  She moved to California where she went to work at the Stanford University Hospital as a cardiac nurse.  In 1995, she married Franz Kaufhardt, and they made their home in Oregon, where Janell continued her career in health care at local hospitals there.  Janell retired in 2018 and she and Franz moved back to McAlester.  Janell was a life-time member of the Presbyterian Church, and stayed active with the church wherever she lived.  She was also a natural interior decorator, and, although not formally trained, she had the eye of a professional.

Janell is survived by her husband, Franz Kaufhardt; a son and daughter-in-law, Trevor and Marlyss Matthews, and their children, Blake and Clark; her mother, Mozelle Proctor; and a brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Eugenia Proctor.  She was preceded in death by her father, John Proctor.
