Jack L. Gibson, Sr., 81, of McAlester, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at McAlester Regional Health Center.

He was born on September 22, 1942 in Liberal, Kansas to Charles B. and Crystal Louise (Doughenbaugh) Gibson.  He attended Bowlegs High School where he played football and graduated in 1961.

Jack was a full of life character, that would always leave an impression.  He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing a good game of cards, and watching a good western.  Jack was primarily involved in the oil field during his lifetime.  He started at an early age and eventually worked his way up to a managing consultant and company man, with a large portion of his work being with DL Goins and Associates, out of Tulsa, OK.  He did consultant work up until he retired in 2012, at the age of 69. He was also a business owner in the McAlester area for several years, where he owned 2 different laundromats.  Jack was fond of the outdoors. In his earlier days he was an avid bird hunter, where he could be found sporting his Frenchie shotgun, walking fields in an attempt to track down some quail.  Later on, after the birds were getting hard to find, he focused his activities on catfishing.  Where most spring and summer weekend nights, he could usually be found on a lake shore, with his boys, and can of his homemade catfish bait.  He also enjoyed golfing with friends and family.  His favorite golf courses were Thunderbird and Arrowhead, and he regularly participated in the yearly Arkoma Golf Tournaments.

He is survived by 4 sons and daughters-in-law, Jack Gibson, Jr., Gary Gene Gibson, Jason and Ambra Gibson, Cody and Amber Gibson; grandchildren, Aubri Aumiller, Keaton Smith, Dakota McElroy, Sam Shelton, Gavin Gibson, Addison Gibson, Gracie Gibson, Abbi Rowell, Dillon Rowell, Braxton Brown, Shasta Whitmore, Crystal Gibson and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley Bonham; sister, Karen Gibson; and daughter-in-law, Tina Gibson.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in McAlester with Rev. Jamie Kirkpatrick officiating.
