Howard Powell Gibson 85 of McAlester, passed away peacefully, in his home September 21, 2022.
The family will welcome friends for visitation on Friday September 23rd. Funeral Services will be Saturday September 24th 2:30 pm at Calvary Baptist Church in McAlester, Oklahoma with Brother Chip Lott officiating. Burial will follow at Pryor Cemetery in Stuart, Oklahoma. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Tyler Blasengame of Kiowa, Jeffery McKee of McAlester, Tyler McKee of Eufaula, Braden McKee of McAlester, Colby Gibson of Houston Texas, Casey Gibson of McAlester, Chris Gibson of Houston Texas and Axton Gibson. Honorary Pallbearers are Chuck Courts of McAlester, Luther Carr, Clyde Gene (Bounce) Hull of Oklahoma City, Curtis Baker of McAlester, Jamie McKee of Eufaula, Ed Clark of McAlester, John Merritt of Poteau.
Howard Gibson was born on November 14, 1936 in Glasgow, Kentucky to Millard Edward Gibson and Mary Magdalene (Jesse) Gibson. At the age of 14 he moved to Columbus Indiana with his family where he resided until he joined the Army where he served for four years. 18 months of which was spent in Korea. After returning home he was stationed in Fort Riley, Abilene, Kansas. In 1955 he met Mattie Ruth Adams and they were married November 9th 1957 in Abilene Kansas After getting out of the service. They had three children of which are Davis "Hoot" Gibson, LeeAnn Gibson McKee, Shawna Gibson McKee. They had made their homes in Florida and Indiana. In 1966 they moved back to Oklahoma where they resided until his death. Howard and his son Hoot were owners and operators of Gibs Transmission where they worked for over 53 years. Howard was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 35 years where he served as a deacon.
Howard is survived by his wife, Ruth Gibson of the home; daughter, Leeann and husband Jamie McKee of Eufaula; daughter, Shawna McKee of McAlester and daughter-in-law, Warna Gibson; grandson, Chris Gibson and Nikki of Houston, Texas; granddaughter, Jamielee McKee of Eufaula; granddaughter, Malarie Blasengame and husband Tyler of Kiowa, grandson, Colby and wife, Julia Gibson of Houston, Texas, grandson, Tyler and wife Karrissa Mckee of Eufaula, grandson, Casey Gibson and wife Shelly of McAlester, grandson, Jeffery McKee and wife Denise of McAlester; 10 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews and a host of friends, including a special family friend, Johnny Merritt of Poteau.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Bill and Jack Gibson; sister Jill Pillar; his son, Hoot Gibson, his in-laws, John and Myrtle Adams, and sister-in-law, Selma Stevenson and brother-in-law JH Adams.
