Houston Joseph Coffey was born on November 7, 1950 in Exeter, Virginia to Lawrence Andrew Coffey and Pauline Otis (Houston) Coffey.  He has lived in the Gowen community for the past 40+ years.  He worked as an exterminator in his early years, then went on to work for National Oilwell.  After that he became a foster parent, where he changed many children's lives over the course of 15 plus years before retiring.  Houston enjoyed going fishing, riding four-wheelers, and going on road trips with his daughter.  But most important to him was cutting up with his grandchildren and playing with his great grand-babies, and telling them about God.  He was a member of the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church.

Houston is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie Dawn Irvin and husband Tim; 3 granddaughters, Stefanie Areonia Hartman, Paige Christine Areiell Coffey, and Brittany Nicole Phillips; 6 great grandchildren, Christian Joseph, Zailey Winter, Cameron Michael, Aleena Lavender, Colston Robert, and Mazlynn Daisy; a brother and sister-in-law, Johnny Coffey and wife Bonnie; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Pedigo and husband Bob.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Dale Coffey; 2 brothers, Calvin and Dean Coffey; a sister, Anna Flo Coffey; a niece, Belinda Trueblood; and a sister-in-law, Ann Coffey.
