Obituary

Helen Maxine Jennings, 92, of McAlester, passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024 in McAlester.  Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 2:00p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester.  Viewing will be Tuesday until 8:00 p.m.

Helen Jennings was born on Sept. 10, 1931 in McAlester to Clarence and Ruth (Guess) Jackson.  She grew up in the Stuart area and graduated from Stuart High School.  She and Don Jennings were married on Nov. 10, 1951 and they made their home in McAlester since 1967.  Helen worked as a bookkeeper for the Boy Scouts of America for a short time, then was the bookkeeper at Hunt's Department Store for many years.  Helen was an active member of the First Christian Church, then the Central Christian Church, where she served as church board secretary, as well as volunteering for other duties.  She served on Mother's Day Out programs and was active with Meals on Wheels.  She enjoyed sewing, gardening, watching OSU sports and Thunder basketball.  But her most precious time was time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her 2 daughters, Connie Terronez and husband Tony, and Carol McBride; 3 granddaughters, Casey Brittain and husband Jeremy, Courtney Peters, and Alexandra McBride; a grandson, Corey McBride; 2 great grandsons, Parker Brittain and Carter Brittain; and a sister and brother-in-law, Jackie and John Kuykendall.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; 3 sisters, Virginia Kirkley, Doris Pittman, and Wanda Bristow; and a brother, Morris Jackson.
