Gwendolyn Carr, 87, of Adamson, passed away Friday, November 22, 2024 at her home near Adamson. Viewing is scheduled for Friday from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne. Funeral services are set for Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hartshorne High School Auditorium, with Cesar Rentie officiating. Burial will follow at Adamson Cemetery. Pallbearers are Terry Campbell, Stacy Carr, Darrell Smith, Michael Proctor, James Campbell, and Karlton Proctor.
Gwendolyn Carr was born on November 5, 1937 in Adamson to Willie Mac and Alberts (Ockletree) Campbell. She grew up in Adamson and, except for a short time in California, has lived there all her life. After starting a family, she decided to return to school, and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from Northeastern State University. Over the years, Gwendolyn has worn many hats. She worked at St. Mary's Hospital for several years, and at Anthony's and Gibson's department stores, and at the county Health Department. She also worked at McAlester and Hartshorne schools as a special education teacher. She also served as a foster parent for several kids and ran her own day care center; and was also a licensed cosmetology instructor. All of this while raising her own family. She was loved by all that knew her throughout the community. She was married to Cornelius Carr on April 27, 1983, and he preceded her in death in 2011.
Gwendolyn is survived by her children, Zalda Siggal, Terry L Campbell and wife Cathy, Dru Campbell, Janice Y. Smith, Darell Smith, Stacy L Carr and wife Misty, and Greg Scott; 13 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Essie L. Campbell; and a host of other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 2 sons, David Wayne Smith and Gary Eugene Smith; and a brother, Harry Gene Campbell.
