George Zellmer, 69, of Moore, Okla., formerly of McAlester, passed away Saturday, July 3, at Integris Medical Center in Oklahoma City.  A family visitation will begin at 12:30 P.M. on Wednesday, July 7, at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home, then the funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m., with Reverend Bob Duran officiating.  Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in McAlester.  Pallbearers are Don Hass, Steve Davy, Chuck Courts, Rob McLendon, M. L. Henry, and Josh Hass.  Honorary pallbearers are Ernie Tannehill, Sam Bayado, Mike Lamb, Tommy McGarry, Andrew McGee, and the State Champion Football team members of the class of 1969.

George Zellmer was born on Dec. 13, 1951 in Prairie Grove, Ark. to Alvin and Marie (Ghorayeb) Zellmer.  His family moved to McAlester when George was young and he grew up here, graduating from McAlester High School in 1969, where he was a stand-out football player.  He went on to NEO University where he played football for a year until knee injuries forced him off the field.  He transferred to the University of Oklahoma where he earned his bachelor's degree and was an active member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.   He then went to law school at Oklahoma City University Law School, where he received his Juris Doctorate.  George returned to McAlester where he joined the Presley Brown Law Office for a short time.  He then partnered with Monte Brown in their own law practice, and they eventually joined the Allford and Ivester Law Firm, before finally opening his own law practice.  George was a long-time member of the Pittsburg County Bar Association and had served on the Board of Directors of the McAlester Boys and Girls Club.  He had also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. George loved the outdoors where hunting and fishing were big hobbies.  He also loved to watch OU football.  George grew up in St. John's Catholic church, and had also attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Krebs.  He had most recently attended St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.

George is survived by his wife, Terry Zellmer; a daughter, Kimberly Caldwell; a son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Kelsey Zellmer; 4 grandchildren, Khloe Caldwell, Noelle Zellmer, Gabriel Zellmer, and Asher Zellmer; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Johnny Zellmer and Cynthia, and Joe Zellmer and Donna; a sister-in-law, Toni Lamb and husband Mike; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Gerri Hutchinson.
