George "Butch" Mellor, Jr., 82, of McAlester, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023 at his home.  A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 12, at 10:00 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in McAlester.

George "Butch" Mellor, Jr. was born on November 2, 1941 in McAlester to George Mellor, Sr. and Elzie (Ussery) Mellor.  He grew up here and has lived here all his life.  Butch owned and operated the Mellor Chevrolet dealership in Hartshorne for several years, eventually moving the dealership to McAlester, where he operated for close to 20 years, until selling out.  Butch loved to fly and has had his pilot license for many years, and was the manager of McAlester Regional Airport for several years.  Butch was a member of the McAlester Masonic Lodge.  He was also a steer roper for many years and was a member of the Senior Ropers Association.

Butch is survived by his children, Billy Mellor and wife Susan, Vanessa Latvala and husband Chris, and Megan Ervin and partner Jimmie Pink; 5 grandchildren, Lauren Mellor, Gemma, Genevieve and Harrison Latvala, and Josephine "Josie" Pink; a sister, Alice Shirley; 2 nieces and 1 nephew, Tracey Hobbs, Kim Grant, and George "David" Shirley; a cousin, Betty Weeks; and a special friend and care-giver, Jana Oliver.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Jodi Mellor.
