Freada Mae Burden, 89, of McAlester, passed away Thursday, Sept. 21, in McAlester.  Viewing will be Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  A graveside committal service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 10:30 a.m. at the Coalgate Cemetery in Coalgate.  A memorial service for Freada will be held on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel.

Freada Mae Burden was born on July 6, 1932 in Coalgate to John Christopher Hoffner and Emma (Willis) Hoffner.  She grew up in Coalgate and graduated from Coalgate High School.  She married Clovus Burden in DeQueen, Ark. on March 4, 1950 and quickly made their long-time home in McAlester in 1951.  Freada worked at Seamprufe, the McAleser Clinic, Hunt's Department Store, Dr. Yehle's Veternary Hospital, McAlester High School, and finally as the catalogue sales supervisor at J. C. Penney's, until her eventual retirement.  Freada was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Presbyterian Women's groups. She also loved traveling with a ladies group called the Gaddabouts.  She enjoyed traveling even more when Clovus retired and they could travel together.  She was also a member of the Red Hat Club.

Freada is survived by her children, Jimmy Burden and Diane, Bob  Burden and Sherri, Kathy Hunt and Kerry, and Margaret Corder and Rick; her grandchildren, Erica Taylor and John, Edward Burden and Katie, Michael Burden, Matthew Daniels, Katie Lackey and Cody, Kyle Brock and Jessica, Jessie Brown and Cody, and Kerri Hunt; her great grandchildren, Gabe, Gage, and Gabby Brown, Elliott and Griffin Taylor, Harper and Benjamin Brock, Corbin and Brooklyn Lackey, and Kace and Kash Patton; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clovus, and a son-in-law, Tony Daniels.
