Obituary

Fleta Jo Sorrels

March 22, 1941 - January 29, 2023

Fleta was born as the youngest daughter to Julius and Josephine Davis in Indianola Oklahoma, where she graduated high school on May 11, 1959. Fleta always enjoyed school and was involved in Basketball, Softball, and Track.  She was a member of the Glee Club, FHA, Honor Society and received a Letters Award and Librarian Medal.  Fleta stated as her intended occupation while in school "secretary work", which she later in life would spend as the Elementary Secretary at Porum Schools, retiring after twenty-five years. In her younger adult years Fleta was a stay at home Mom to three children and involved in their school and activities along the way.

Fleta enjoyed her Church work in her early years at Porum Church of Christ and later became a member of North Town Church of Christ when moving to McAlester fifteen years ago.  She enjoyed baking, crocheting and cross stitch, all kinds of sports, going on many camping trips with family and friends, and was an active member of Eastern Star in Porum for many years. Fleta married Melvin Sorrels in Porum in December of 1991 and they spent fourteen happy years together before his death in 2006.  They enjoyed traveling with friends, family and grandchildren and occasionally Fleta was known to travel with Melvin on his jobs as a cross country truck driver. Fleta's proudest moments and the things that brought her the most joy in life were her four grandchildren and her three great grandchildren.  She spent lots of time traveling to Kansas City and Oklahoma City for their activities and events and was most proud to be called "Grandma."

Fleta is survived by her daughter, Kathy and husband Bob of Spring Hill, KS and her son, Duane and wife Dana of Norman OK.   She is also survived by her grandson, Jess Webb and wife Brittany of Bartlesville OK, granddaughters, Henley Watkins and husband Garrett of Choctaw OK, Lauren Diskin and husband Anthony of Sapulpa OK, and Jarod Tapp of Spring Hill KS.  She is also survived by her three great grandchildren Henley Watkins, Maizyn Webb, and Jensen Webb. She is also survived by one sister, Barbara Duvall, brother, Raymond Davis (Mary), Benny Davis (Connie), Dale Davis (Rosemary) and sisters-in-law, Virginia Davis and Joyce Davis and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Dana Kay Webb; husband, Melvin Sorrels; sister Carolyn Sue Davis; and brothers Dwight Davis, Kenneth Davis, and Lynn Davis.
