Obituary

Edward Leroy Suter, 84, of Hartshorne, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2022 at the Talihina Veterans Center.  The family will welcome friends and family for visitation at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne on Monday, September 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 13th at 3:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne, officiated by Captains Ric and Dodie Swartz (R.)  Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

Edward Leroy Suter was born on October 20, 1937 in Haileyville, Oklahoma to Leroy Suter and Barbara Jane (Frakes) Suter.  He grew up in the Craig community on a farm. Edward graduated from Haileyville High School in 1955,

Edward joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and was able to take care of his Mother and 3 brothers.  He made a career of the Navy, living all around the world, until, after 30 years, retiring with an honorable discharge.  He returned Home to Haileyville. Later, Edward went to work at the Army Ammunition Plant for 20 years until retiring in 2001.

On October 20, 1981, he married Tressie Nadean McNatt (Cobb) Simpson, and they made their home in Hartshorne for the remaining years with their 3 children.  He was a life-time member of the American Legion. the VFW, the DAV, and the NRA.  He was also an amazing gardener and loved his family and God.

Edward enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved spending time with his family.  He was of the Baptist faith.

Edward is survived by his wife, Tressie Suter; his children, son, Jessie D. Simpson, first daughter Cora Jafayne Suter-Chambers and spouse, and second daughter Bridgette Nadean Suter; grandchildren, Marie Angel Salazar, Violette Renea Salazar, Remington Chambers, Maverick Chambers, Easten Chambers, and Emery Chambers; a brother, Howard Suter and family; and some extended family.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents. Leroy and Barbara Suter and 2 brothers, Leon and William (Bill) Suter.
