Obituary

Edith L. Carney, 105, of McAlester, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, at her home with her family at her side.  The family will welcome friends for viewing and visitation at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel.  Officiating is Brent Jarrett and assisting is Ricky Kerns.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Sean Carney, Kevin Carney, Jeff Page, Trace Hensley, Bradlee Patterson and Jeff Smith.  Honorary pallbearers are Keith Barnes, Charles Groves, Tony Winningham, Donald Stacey, Jr., Dwight Kerns, Joel Kerns and a host of nieces and nephews.

Edith Carney was born on Jan. 10, 1917 in Stuart to Charles Winningham and Adeline (McClellan) Winningham. She grew up in the Stuart area and has lived, basically in Pittsburg County, all her life.  She was married to Calvin (Cobb) Carney, who preceded her in death in 1964.  In addition to being a homemaker, taking care of her family and raising her children, she also provided a long-term baby-sitting service in her home for countless families, caring for hundreds of children over the years.  When she had spare time, she was an excellent seamstress, loved working in the flower beds, reading, and working puzzles, and especially enjoyed taking care of her grandkids and great grandkids.

Edith is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Victor and Irene Carney; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Carney; 4 grandchildren, Tonya Barnes and husband Keith, Sean Carney, Kelly Page and husband Jeff, and Kevin Carney and wife Tonya, Step grandson Matthew Arnold; great grandchildren, Joshua Barnes and significant other Bradlee, Whitney Barnes and significant other Jeff, Trace Hensley and significant other Ashley, Karlie Carney, Kyla Carney and significant other Marcello, Logan Arnold, Hunter Arnold and Jackson Arnold; great-great-grandchildren, Carter Smith, Harper Smith, Everleigh Hensley, and Eva Artiaga; her dear sister, Millie Nichols (92) of Krebs; and a special family friend, Lindsay Lee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Calvin Carney, Jr., and a daughter-in-law, Gloria Carney; her brothers Robert and Calvin Winningham and sisters Muriel Hodges, Tina Stacey, Joe Ethel Stacey, Gladys Contratto, and Willie Carney: as well as step-grandson Bradley Arnold.
