Dorris "Don" Allen Thompson, 81, of McAlester, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021 at a local nursing center.

Family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester.  Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2021 at Brumley-Mills Chapel with Brother Jim Harris officiating.  Burial will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in McAlester.

He was born on June 25, 1939 in Arpelar, Oklahoma to Paul and Lillian (Cobb) Thompson.  He married Shirley Prater on July 9, 1965 in McAlester.  He retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.  He raised fighting chickens and had a heart for taking care of stray cats.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and LaWanna Thompson; grandchildren, Blake Thompson, Maranda Martinez, Breana Thompson and Hannah Whitlock; great-grandchildren, Ella Martinez, Wyatt Martinez, Paxtyn Austin, Harper Thompson and Addalee Leibfried; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ed and Carolyn Debrosky; sister-in-law, Pat Prater; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Thompson and Joyce Thompson; many nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, Jerry London, Kenneth Teague and Donnie Rowell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Thompson; sister, Dorothy Adams; parents, Paul and Lillian Thompson; brother-in-law, Jim Prater; niece, Gina Miller; great-granddaughter, Sophia Martinez.

Active pallbearers will be Ed Debrosky, Chris Herrin, Dewayne Rippee, Darrell Miller, Jason Adams, Blake Thompson and Eric Martinez.  Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Rowell, Jerry London, Tom Rumsey, George Finamore and Kenneth Teague.
