Dera Lorraine (Beshear) Hollis, 89, of Adamson, passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at her home.
She was born on August 11, 1932 in Crowder, Oklahoma to Elmer and Leta Maurine (Evans) Beshear. She graduated from McAlester High School in 1950 and married Warren Dale Hollis on June 24, 1950 at Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was the mother of four children, Sherry Ann Hollis, Kathy Lynn Hollis, Warren Dale Hollis, Jr. and Brent Lee Hollis. She was employed by the State of Oklahoma Department of Health as State Health Inspector, inspecting nursing homes for over 25 years. She was then hired by the State of Oklahoma to inspect jails and prisons, being the first female in this state to hold that position! Her extraordinary insight to the care of others has never been surpassed.
Lorraine loved her family, always being involved in every aspect of their lives. Lorraine was active in her church at Adamson, Oklahoma and in her sorority of New Beta E & A. She helped raise contributions for St. Jude Children's Hospital and many local community needs.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathy L. Wheatley; two sons, Warren Dale Hollis, Jr. and Brent Lee Hollis; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; cousins, Al Evans and Jimmy Evans.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Dale Hollis; parents, Elmer and Leta Maurine Beshear; daughter, Sherry Ann Andrews; two brothers, Lawrence "Sonny" Beshear and Elmer Lee Beshear; two sisters, Louise Hutchison and Bonnie Ruth Nelson; grandmother, Johnnie Elizabeth Evans; mother and father-in-law, Lee and Maude Hollis; grandson, Jason Everett Wheatley; friend, Namia Sharp.
Family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne. Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 1 st at the Adamson Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Young officiating. Burial will follow at Adamson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Cole Wheatley, Brad Terry, Adam Hollis, Jesse Lee Hollis, Christopher Hollis and Dentin Hollis. Honorary pallbearers will be Colton Gragg and Logan Gragg.
