Obituary

Dennis Ray Trammell, 85, of McAlester, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2022 in McAlester.  The family will welcome friends for visitation at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home on Sunday, Nov. 27, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 28, at 11:00 a.m. at the Friendship Church near Ashland, with Pastor Sharla Stevenson officiating.  Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery.  Active pallbearers are Tony Echelle, Robert Williams, David Mabry, Jimmy Williams, Micah Stites, and Johnny McPhetridge.  Honorary pallbearers are Mike Kellogg, John McPhetridge, Joe Pete Echelle, Steve Davis, Clark Rhyne, Daniel Lester, and Bill Hensley.

Dennis Ray Trammell was born on Sept. 19, 1937 in Haywood to Daniel Chester and Jewell Mae (Dunn) Trammell.  His childhood was spent in Haywood and Ashland, but was back and forth between here and California.  He graduated high school at Ashland and then attended the College of the Sequoyah's, until he returned to Oklahoma.  He completed his education in Oklahoma, earning a Master's Degree from Central State University, and then his School Administrator Certificate from the University of Oklahoma.  He taught school in Oklahoma City for 7 years before returning to McAlester.  He taught at Emerson Elementary School and served as principal and was later appointed principal at Key Academy. He was hired as Superintendent of Kiowa Schools in 1976 until his retirement.  After retiring he worked for the federal program, School to Work, for 5 more years.  Dennis's favorite past-time was playing golf with his buddies, but family was his top priority.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Anita Trammell; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Garry Rind; 2 sons and 1 daughter-in-law, Steve and Lisa Trammell, and Mike Trammell; grandchildren are Dillon Rind and wife Stacey, Madeline Rind, Kylene Alsip and husband Aaron, Kelsi Potter, Kendra Stites and husband Micah, Ashley Briant and husband Chuck, Patrick Trammell, Eva Bohannan and husband Brian, and Anna Farid and husband Kemal; and numerous great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Verlon Mae Lester.
