Obituary

Dennis Lee Dugan, 71, of Hartshorne, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024 in McAlester.  A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hartshorne Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Scott Horstman officiating.

Dennis Dugan was born on Nov. 25, 1952 in Yerington, Nevada to Glenden Robert Dugan and Juanita (Brown) Dugan.  Due to his father's work, Dennis' childhood was spent in many different places across the country.  As an adult, he served in the U.S. Air Force, then ended up in Oklahoma and became an Oklahoma Highway Patrolman.  After a number of years, he decided to change his career course, and went back to school and earned a Master's Degree in Education.  He then became a teacher, first at Pauls Valley, then at Jones Academy, retiring in 2021, after 19 years in the classroom.  While teaching at Pauls Valley, Dennis named Teacher of the Year, and he authored a children's book, "When The Lights Go Out".  Dennis was an avid reader and loved to travel; and was a proud member of the Republican Party.  He also loved all sports and was a big fan of the Hartshorne Miners and the OU Sooners.  And he never missed any of his grandchildren's activities or performances.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Rhonda Dugan; children, Justin Faulkner and wife Ashley, and Jared Faulkner; grandchildren, Cash and Ridge Faulkner; a brother, Mike Dugan; a sister-in-law, Helen Dugan; a brother-in-law, Larry Burris and wife Shirley; parents-in-law, Ron and Charlotte Cunningham; sister-in-law, Gerry and Jana Pirtle; nieces and nephews, Taryn Pirtle, Jennifer Wackerly, Robert Burris, Jeanna Goodall, Eldon Dugan, Jackson Dugan, Blake Pirtle, Crisi Dugan, Anita Tucker, Cathey Webb, and Penny Pierce.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenden and Juanita Dugan; a brother, Glenden Robert Dugan, Jr.; and 2 sisters, Patricia Graham and Kathy Burris.
