Christopher Shawn
Shields
Jan 31, 1960 — Jul 5, 2023
McAlester
Christopher Shawn Shields, age 63, passed away July 5, 2023, in McAlester, Ok. He was born January 31, 1960, in McAlester, Ok, to John and Anna Marie Shields. He grew up in Krebs and was a proud Italian krebian. It was in Krebs that he attended grade school, worked at the family drive-in and served up his namesake "Tiger" burgers. He graduated from McAlester High School in 1978. He married his sweetheart, Carla, on February 9, 1985. They had two children: Carter Jon and Catherine Elizabeth and a special niece Heather. He was a devoted father, husband, uncle, brother and friend who loved his family and friends selflessly and was a father figure to so many. He loved spending time with his family and friends outdoors riding motorcycles, side by sides, boating, hunting, and fishing. But "Pappy's" greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He devoted his entire working life of 35 years to Vicars Furniture. He was always first to volunteer his time to help with the kids' events, coach little league teams and helped start a little league football program in McAlester. He was faithful to Life Church and was always up for a good conversation and aways brought a cheerful and positive energy to wherever he was. He was a bit of a historian and was always able to remember details of times past. He always knew everyone and nearly always had a story to tell and memory to share when they ran into each other. He loved all his family and everyone was always welcome at their home and he always made sure the kids stayed in line. They all knew that it was his house, his rules and looking back it was for the best and they all loved him for it. His conversations and personality will always be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carla, son Carter Jon and wife Renae Shields, daughter Catherine Elizabeth, grandchildren Ben and Luna Shields, sister Tammy Shipley and husband Don, brothers- and sisters-in-law: Shelly and Mark Otis, Dustin and Misty Vicars, Jonathan and Stephanie Vicars, father-in-law Ron Vicars, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Robert and Olive Vivian Shields, maternal grandparents Harold and Darlene Horton, parents John and Anna Marie Shields, sister Shawnya Brown, and mother-in-law Sharon Vicars.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and everyone that knew and loved him.
A visitation for all family and friends will be held Sunday at 4:30 pm to be followed by a Rosary at 6:00 pm at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester, Ok. Funeral to be held 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 10, 2023 at Life Church in McAlester with Pastor Terren Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester.
Pallbearer will be nephews: Ryan Shields, Josh Brown, Jeff Martin, Dillon Vicars, and friends: Michael Sadler and Jacob Padilla. Honorary pallbearers to be Larry Coxsey, Mike Rodriguez, Ted Cable, Mark Derichsweiler, Terry Hayes, Tony Kountoupis, and Randy Rodriguez.
The family and Chris would like to request that all of their "biker" friends ride their motorcycles to funeral service and form a procession to his final resting place at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester.
